Michelle Lovett

My goal is to set up a phage display system in the laboratory, with the first target being to engineer scFv molecules against components of the g-TuRC complex, to further enable us to study their function in microtubule nucleation.

Previously, after receiving a B.A. in Biology from the University of California at Berkeley, I worked for one year in biotech, then 12 years at UCSF in two different laboratories. In the Welch Lab I studied the role of heat shock (or "stress") proteins in the normal and metabolically stressed cell, with the focus on hsp70 in determining its function as a molecular chaperone. In the GI Lab I studied two families of signaling molecules (neuropeptides and proteases) and their G-protein coupled receptors, to determine the role of these mediators and receptors in inflammation and repair in the gastrointestinal tract.
